A Practice in Gaining Confidence

Despite my love for moving pictures, I’ve disliked photography since I discovered my lack of composition skills in my first photography class.  That’s not to say I don’t recognize and appreciate a beautiful shot in a movie when I see one.  Some favorites are:

In defending my lack of composition skills, I’ve been known to espouse the cop-out, “I want to direct, not be a cinematographer.”  But something tells me that being able to create beautiful images will help me gain the confidence I need to direct.  Bear with me as I practice.  Suggestions are welcomed!
